About Benjamin Lou
Benjamin is a physiotherapist and a member of the Ordre Professionnel de la Physiothérapie du Québec. He earned his Master of Science Applied in Physiotherapy degree from McGill University in 2012. During his training, he completed clinical placements working with patients recovering from strokes or amputations, as well as those with cardiorespiratory conditions. Immediately after graduating, he began working in private practice at the Canadian Back Institute, where he spent seven years specializing in orthopedics and physical pain. He subsequently spent several years working with niche populations —Canadian military veterans (Veterans Affairs Canada) and Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception — groups that face unique physiotherapy challenges involving chronic pain intertwined with age-related illnesses and conditions. Driven by a desire to bring the full benefit of his experience to the general public, he launched his own private practice in 2022.
To address your specific needs, Benjamin adopts an eclectic approach, often prioritizing a combination of techniques. While he is certified in Global Postural Re-education (RPG) for postural problems and a certified Mulligan Concept practitioner (CMP) for musculoskeletal pain, he is equally skilled in prescribing exercises (strengthening, stretching, balance) and utilizing massage and muscle release techniques, manual therapy and joint mobilization, the McKenzie Method, taping, functional rehabilitation, electrotherapy, graded motor imagery and mirror therapy. Each approach serves as an additional tool in his toolkit, allowing him to tackle complex issues methodically from various angles—thereby maximizing the likelihood that patients will see tangible results as quickly as possible. For Benjamin, trust in physiotherapy begins with showing results.
Beyond his clinical work, Benjamin is deeply committed to research and knowledge translation. He has co-authored several scientific papers, covering topics such as rheumatoid arthritis screening and access to rheumatology care. A natural educator, he taught orthopedic physiotherapy at McGill University, and he strives to make the science of physiotherapy accessible through various personal projects, including the hand-drawn comic series "Elbro Needs physio" and "Le Moineau scientifique" badminton workshops he leads at sporting events. He believes it is crucial for everyone to be well-informed so they can take charge of their own health.
Benjamin is passionate about music and sports; he has performed on the alto saxophone and competed in dragon boat racing for several years. He currently focuses on badminton and bouldering. To maximize his progress, he draws on his knowledge of gym-based training—expertise that also allows him to tailor exercise programs to your specific needs regarding injury prevention and physical performance, whether for music, sports, work, or daily life.
In short, whether you require in-clinic or in-home physiotherapy, Benjamin brings 14 years of professional experience to diagnosing, explaining, and treating your physical conditions. And if he doesn't have an immediate answer to your needs, rest assured he will dedicate himself fully to finding one through the latest scientific literature or by referring you to the appropriate professionals.
